National African Immigrants and Refugee HIV and Hepatitis Awareness Day

September 9

September 9 is National African Immigrant and Refugee HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis Awareness Day (NAIRHHA Day). Established in 2014 by advocates in Massachusetts, Washington, D.C., and New York, this day focuses on raising awareness about the unique HIV and viral hepatitis challenges faced by African immigrants in the U.S. NAIRHHA Day aims to address these needs through culturally relevant education, resources, and by encouraging screenings, treatment, and hepatitis B vaccination. It also works to reduce stigma surrounding these diseases and empower communities to take control of their health.
